Once upon a time, there lived a princess. She lived in a big palace with shiny turrets and many gardens. But one day a dark cloud, miles long and miles wide, grew over the kingdom. The princess grew very sick. She no longer wanted to walk through the gardens, or sing for her friends. All she wanted to do was stay locked up in her tower and wait for the cloud to disintegrate. The flowers in her gardens died and her friends found other people to sing for them.
The princess decided she would lock herself in her tower for the rest of her life where it would be as if she did not exist. Before the princess turned the lock, a silvery fairy flew in through the keyhole. She told the princess of two magic potions she could drink, one that would end her misery, and another that would cure her. The princess decided to drink the curing potion but paused before the liquid touched her lips.
She wondered if she would still like to grow flowers afterward. She wondered if she would still like to sing. She kept wondering and the silvery fairy grew impatient and forced the princess to drink the potion. As the liquid trickled down the princess's throat, she froze in fear. What if the potion was too strong? What if it put her to sleep for one hundred years? What if the potion did not make her better?
