Persistence

"Look at the stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before."
- Jacob August Riis

It's easy to let your drops fall to your sides in defeat to justify your surrender by saying "Look, nothing's happening, I can't do it." It's easy to feel like you're giving your everything to no avail. "It will always be a rock," you say, "and how can I defeat something so unbreakable?"

The Stone Cutter, Martin Driscoll

All the change is on the inside. It takes a great amount of faith to keep hammering, hammering , hammering away. It takes great character to give everything you've got with no promise of result or guarantee of success. But even something as hard as a stone must yield to the great thing that is human persistence.
